History of ProCare: Dewing the right thing

Mat Dewing, CEO

Mat Dewing; founder of ProCare Physical Therapy and Fitness, has always had a passion for excellence. He had a strong desire to own a physical therapy practice which fostered the importance of roots, community involvement, and longevity in relationships. Mat envisioned a workplace where people could have some control over their work and help shape the culture of a new, patient-centered company. He had a vision of superior care and exceptional customer service in an environment where people would be encouraged to be their best.

Pursuing his dream, Mat launched ProCare’s first office in the corner of a Comfort Inn fitness center in 2001. He delivered the best possible, most compassionate care for patients. Satisfied patients told other people; who then became satisfied patients, and the cycle continued. Soon, Mat had enough work for two therapists. Micki Williams joined ProCare, and quickly developed a similar rapport with patients.

Mat and Micki soon outgrew the corner of the Comfort Inn, which lead them to an independent site in Towanda. Before long, the demand for services inspired them to open a second ProCare location; this one in Wyalusing. Seeing steady growth in the need for physical therapy and the potential to help so many more people, they opened a Waverly, NY, location in 2004 and yet another in Troy in 2005.

The year 2006 was a period of fast growth for ProCare. Mat took on a business partner, Todd Kramer; he brought a vast amount of business experience that enabled Mat and Micki to focus even more on their employees and patients, creating a strong foundation for the next several locations.

ProCare is still going strong with 12 physical therapy locations and 3 fitness centers. Mat’s dream is alive and well, and so many people are living healthier, pain-free lives because of it.
